Introducing PREVENILE™ - an innovative West Nile virus vaccine from Intervet Canada Ltd.

PREVENILE is the first West Nile vaccine with approved claims to prevent viremia and as an aid in the prevention of disease and encephalitis caused by West Nile virus infection. PREVENILE is the only one dose West Nile virus vaccine with a full 12 months of safe, convenient, proven West Nile protection. The safety and convenience of PREVENILE serves important yet unmet practitioner needs. This non-adjuvanted vaccine requires only one dose and has been shown to be >99% reaction free in safety studies. In a small study using yearling horses, it was demonstrated that onset of immunity may be achieved as early as 10 days following a single vaccination of a field dose.

PREVENILE has been available in the US for over a year with widespread success.

PREVENILE utilizes a live attenuated human Yellow Fever chimera virus with certain structural genes exchanged for those of West Nile virus by ChimeriVax™ technology. Immunogenicity and onset of immunity studies utilized a severe intrathecal (injection into the cerebrospinal fluid) challenge model post-vaccination to demonstrate efficacy.
