NEWS2006 Munich Indoors a great success for Bavaria’s Ludwig Zierer At the 2006 Munich Indoors, held November 30 to December 3rd, 2006, Ludwig Zierer was star of the show. As winner in the Grand Prix on Saturday as well as Sunday’s Grand Prix Special, he also took home the special award as best dressage rider of the show. Both times, he rode his top mount Weltino, a 10-year old stallion by Welt Hit, out of a Sion dam. With this horse, Zierer also made it into the German B squad this year. On Saturday, Zierer placed before the multiple World and European champion and Olympic gold medallist Isabell Werth, who came third in the Grand Prix with 1668 points, riding Apache. 2nd place went to Jessica Werndl on Duke (1682 points), and the winner achieved a sensational 1715 points. Sunday, the winning streak continued for Zierer, who came first in the morning’s Grand Prix Special, again riding Weltino, with a total of 1786 points. Jochen Vetters placed 2nd (1757 points) with Fanano, and Jessica Werndl was third with Duke (1735 points) on Duke. This was enough for Zierer to take home the title of best dressage rider at the show, something that pleased him immensely. The hard-working and popular Bavarian rider can now look back on an immensely successful season. In spring, he won a gold medal in the Bavarian Dressage Championships, followed by becoming one of the most successful dressage riders at the 4-day Thann Horse Sports Festival in August. Since then, he has shown consistent results and the latest success this season is sure to prepare him and Weltino for a great year ahead in 2007. Such was the interest in his mount, who people could not stop talking about during the Munich Indoors Show, that Zierer eventually had it announced through the speaker system that Weltino is not for sale!
